Diamond Myths

There are a lot of myths that surround diamonds.
The first of these is the misguided idea that diamonds are very rare. In fact, rubies and emeralds are actually much rarer than diamonds.
Another myth is that they are the most expensive gemstone, but this is also untrue. Once again, they lose out in price per carat to many emeralds and rubies.
People also believe the myth that a bigger diamond has to cost more than one that is smaller. Again, not true. The size of the diamond is only one factor, when it comes to how much it costs. Cut, color, and clarity also play a large role.
Two other common myths about diamonds are that a person cannot tell the difference between them and cubic zirconium, (the zirconium is actually much heavier), and that diamonds are the hardest substance available. Like anything precious stone, they can crack, fracture, and scratch, and they should be treated carefully.
